Chimy’s life-long love of music began at a very early age, starting on the bass at age 3. After studying both classical and jazz bass through high school, Chimy received his Master's degree in Jazz Studies from The Juilliard School in 2017, where he also earned his Bachelor's degree studying under the great Ron Carter. Proficient in many genres, Chimy’s diverse background has allowed him to record, arrange for, and perform around the globe with a wide variety of inspiring musicians. His albums and projects have received critical acclaim from Rolling Stone, NPR, The New York Times and more.

His love of film scoring began at age 17 when his childhood friend, and future film editor/director Connor Smith, asked Chimy to score his debut film; a feature length, independent film, Smoke in the Air. This led Chimy to pursue more work as a film composer, realizing that many of the skills he’d acquired as a bassist could also be used in composition. "I find a lot of the same joys that I get from playing the bass in film scoring. Fundamentally, I'm doing the same thing; I'm giving greater context and supporting a narrative. In a band setting, I'm contextualizing the musical contributions from the soloist and other supporting members of the band. In film, I'm doing the exact same thing, just in a visual sense. Bringing meaning or enhancing meaning in any way I can is what I strive to do as a film composer,” Chimy states. He went on to seek out composition, music production and scoring courses at Juilliard outside of the scope of his degree. As a composer, prolific in both scoring for film as well as concert music, he was one of 8 composers selected to participate in BMI’s, “Composing for the Screen” film scoring mentorship, under the guidance of acclaimed media composer Rick Baitz, and has also studied with composers Philip Lasser, Kendall Briggs and Edward Bilous.

Chimy’s love of all genres of music as well as his strong compositional skills allow him to create unique and beautiful landscapes on which the stories can shine. His experiences in scoring and composition introduced him to the world of sound design and synthesizers. Chimy discovered synthesis through his short film score, “I-Ris,” purchasing a Korg MS-20 Mini and Roland Juno-106 to complete the task. Since then, Chimy has been known for his synthesizer programming and sound design skills, lecturing at various academic institutions on the topic including his alma mater, The Juilliard School. His collection has grown to over 30 analog synthesizers, new and old, and uses them regularly on projects of his own and others. In addition, Chimy has been a proud member of the 8Dio sound design team since mid-2020, serving as a beta tester and program designer for their revolutionary instrument, Soundpaint. He continues to design programs for newly released instruments, develops and designs instruments from the ground up and regularly serves as an on-screen personality in their demos and tutorials. He also composes many of the audio and scoring demos found on Soundpaint’s website as well as in their videos.
